Damping & Resonance Control
Damping & Resonance Control
Resonance is the enemy of accuracy. Lyra employs a multilayered approach using material choice, geometry, damping, and isolation.
Enclosure Material
Baltic birch plywood is selected for stiffness and its cross grain structure, which breaks up resonant modes far more effectively than solid wood.
Driver Isolation
- Woofer suspended on rubber isolation mounts
- Tweeter isolated using the same approach
- Both drivers mounted to a cork layer bonded to the front baffle
- Front baffle isolated from the enclosure using cork gaskets and rubber damped fasteners
- Rear panel mounted with cork and isolation hardware
Every component floats. Every detail is intentional.
Cork Damping
All internal surfaces are lined with cork sheets, providing natural broadband damping without the sonic signature of synthetic materials.
Cork is a 100% natural, reusable, and recyclable material. Its cellular structure makes it light, elastic, and highly effective for sound and vibration control.
Organic Damping
Premium lambswool batting fills the enclosure. Its varied fibre lengths and densities absorb a wider spectrum of internal resonances — particularly at low frequencies — than uniform synthetic fibres.
