About Us
Based in Ottawa, Canada, M42 is a premium craft audio company dedicated to building precision engineered loudspeakers for people who love to listen to music.
We focus on accuracy, expression, and musical truth — honouring the natural timbre, texture, and dynamics of real instruments and voices. Wherever possible, we use natural materials and embrace a clean, timeless design aesthetic, ensuring each speaker looks as exceptional as it sounds.
Through meticulous driver selection, crossover design, and phase alignment, we deliver coherent, musical loudspeakers that provide outstanding long term listening satisfaction.
About Peter Sutcliffe, P.Eng.

As a professional engineer who has spent a career in audio and acoustics, he remains deeply passionate about bringing music to life at home. Music can uplift, soothe, and transport us — and that experience has always guided his work.
A graduate of McGill University in electrical engineering, he studied acoustics while working for Brüel & Kjær. After moving to Ottawa, he was part of a team of young engineers influenced by the research of Dr. Floyd Toole at Canada's National Research Council.
In the 1990s, he launched his first loudspeaker line under the Esper Signals brand. Models such as the E601, E808, and E401 earned international recognition for their distinctive aesthetics and balance of accuracy, warmth, and musicality.
Since then, he has worked as a live sound and studio recording engineer, audio equipment designer, and acoustical consultant on projects including the Telebec, Irving Greenberg, and Algonquin College theatres. He also served as lead engineer for the redesign of the audio recording and playback systems for the Peace Tower Carillon at Canada's House of Commons.
Today, through M42 Group, he provides consulting expertise in acoustics and audio engineering for performance venues, museums, conference rooms, and work spaces.
